Injury Week - Eliminate the Point Guards
I for one, before the injuries, own Andrew Bynum, Andrew Bogut, and Chris Paul in my lineups, although I still keep Paul since he is considered day-to-day.
Andrew Bynum suffered a torn ligament in his right knee and is expected to miss 8 to 12 weeks.
Andre Bogut suffered a mild stress fracture in his lower back sending the Milwaukee Bucks center into an 8 week minimum rest.
Chris Paul suffered a mild groin injury and is day-to-day.
Deron Williams is day-to-day after suffering a thigh injury.
Kevin Garnett is down with a flu and has missed the Celtics' last 3 games.
Gerald Wallace was injured in a collision with Andre Bynum and suffered a partially collapsed lung.
A few games after coming back, Brad Miller is down again, this time with an abdominal strain.
Jameer Nelson suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder and will probably be out for the season.
Caron Butler is suffering from a flu along with Pavlovic.
Chauncy Billups sprained his right ankle in a win over the Spurs.
Chris Bosh injured his right knee in the defensive end of the Raptor's game with the Lakers and is still awaiting results of his test.
Joe Johnson is down with a viral infection and is day-to-day.
In my few years as NBA fantasy owner, I have never seen this much injury in a span of 2 weeks involving players with the caliber listed above.

Center Rush

Before the injury, Bynum has been spectacular for the Lakers, averaging 26 points and 14 rebounds per game in his last five (5) outings after struggling in the early part of the season back from the injury he suffered last year. He was slow to recover and seems to be unable to pick up the energy he has before he got injured last year, however, after sticking it out for a little longer, things got better and he was back in his old form, maybe even better.
Fantasy owners should wait and see how serious the injury is before making a decision to drop him in their lineups. In the meantime, he'll be staying in my bench.
The following could be the possible options if you are looking for someone to fill the void left by Bynum:
- Nick Collison (41% owned) - He averaged double double last week in the four games he played, 10 points and 10 rebounds a game.
- Kevin Love (70% owned) - He's one of the biggest snubs in the NBA rookie challenge, having led the rebound category among rookies. Last week he averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds in four contest.
- Antonio McDyess (25% owned) - Still can rebound coming off the bench. 8.0 points and 11.0 rebounds last week.
- Rony Turiaf (19% owned) - This guy is a monster in the defensive end, averaging 2.7 blocks per contest along with 8.0 rebounds last week. I always use him for rotation ( drop and add) if i need blocks.
- Joakim Noah (44% owned) - He had 3 straight double digit scoring last week and almost a triple double with a 14 point, 10 rebound, 8 block performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He averaged 10 points 7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks last week.

Manu Ginobili's Big Game

I own Manu Ginobili in my head-to-head league after getting him almost for free during the time when he was still injured (trading Cuttino Mobley then), and I almost dropped him myself because I didn't think he was coming back soon enough, fortunately he was ahead of schedule and came back before December last year instead of mid December of 2008.
After making all of his free throw attempts, my matchup score summary in FT percentage has increased to a staggering 89%, enough to be in the top ten best FT shooters in the NBA who attempted enough freebies.
Expect Ginobili to increase his consistency as the Spurs goes back to its championship form.

My Rotisserie League: An Evaluation

With this in mind, I carefully evaluated my team which has the following players:
- Rajon Rondo - PG
- Jamal Crawford - PG, SG
- Chris Duhon - PG
- O.J. Mayo - PG, SG
- Linas Kleiza - SG, SF
- Shawn Marion - SF, PF
- Jeff Green - SF, PF
- Rashard Lewis - SF, PF
- Kenyon Martin - PF
- Tim Duncan - PF, C
- Brook Lopez - PF, C
- Andrew Bynum - C
- Elton Brand - PF, C
In the assist category, I'm currently in the third position with eight (8) points. You might me wondering, where does my assist comes from? Believe me, I myself can't believe it either, but one thing is for sure, Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics has a lot to do with it, I just didn't believe it was enough with only Chris Duhon providing help. Both players are averaging 8.0 dimes per contest.
My steals category has been given a boost after picking up Kenyon Martin of Denver Nuggets, the past week has been tremendous for fantasy owners of Kenyon, having an average of 3.0 steals per contest with 8.0 rebounds to boot. If he's still available in your league I suggest you pick him up. The only thing though is that Melo's return might affect Martin's stat although I'm not very worried though as I think Kleiza's stats will suffer more than Kenyon's.
My 3pt has been on the up since acquiring Rashard Lewis, I have moved from having a single point in the last place to three (3) points, and I'm just slightly below the team with four (4) points. The only setback I'm having now is the injury suffered by Jamal Crawford, he is averaging 24 points this January, his best so far season wise, with two (2) threes and five (5) assist. I hope he comes back soon from his Hamstring injury.

Elton Brand: Diminishing Value?

Last week when I read the news that Elton Brand has started practicing for the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers and was about to play for the team, I felt that it was time to pick him up for my roto NBA fantasy team before anyone else does. I felt I hit a jackpot that nobody have added him yet and was still very available in my rotisserie league. NBA fantasy teams seem to be playing a waiting game trying to see when and how Elton Brand will actually fit-in in the sixers’ team chemistry, but I decided to take a gamble. After all, I needed to boost my defensive rebounding stats for me to catch up with the leader after trading Dwight Howard for Rashard Lewis to boost my 3pt stat which at that time of the trade is at the bottom of the league.
Brand might still be adjusting after missing a month of action due to his shoulder injury, but what concerns me is his ability to blend with the team. The Sixers have put on a winning record while Brand was out with the injury compared to a losing one before he got hurt. Speculation are abound that Brand is not fitting in well with the team and that might be the reason why DiLeo is not involving him much in Sixers’ set plays. Also the emergence of Andre Iguodala while Brand was out could hurt Brand’s market value and stat line.
Still, I’m holding unto Brand to see what other developments could be there for him. After all, he is a potential 20-10-2, points-rebounds-blocks. Continue to monitor Brand’s performance in the next few games before making a decision of trading him. I believe that some teams would still be interested in him and you can trade for a more consistent but lower potential for improvement player.
Right now, Elton Brand is not hot for NBA fantasy pickup. But the potential for improvement is attractive.
